Norton Security for Android

While working for Symantec, I focused on designing features for Norton Security for Android and iOS. In addition to designing for the mobile platforms, I was responsible for leading the UX testing effort (creating prototypes and writing tests) across all Norton products.

Norton Security for Android won the 2017 Best Android Security product award from AV-Test and the “Best Freemium Option” in Android Antivirus Apps category, TOMS Guide 2017.

I created and maintained the shared system of standardized elements and components for the Android Norton Security app.

SYSTEM ADVISOR

System Advisor is a feature that was developed for both Android and iOS. It detects system vulnerabilities and instructs the user on how to fix their device. Scenarios from one of the detections (untrusted certificate) are showcased below.

Untrusted Certificate detection prototype

untrusted certificate detected during scan

An untrusted certificate on a user’s Android phone can pose a security threat to the user’s data. When the user performs a routine scan on their Android phone and an untrusted certificate is found, System Advisor guides the user through the steps to remove the certificate.

untrusted certificate auto-detected

System Advisor can also detect when a user installs a certificate on their device. If the user is not in the Norton Security app, a warning dialog will appear, which will guide the user through the certificate removal process.

IGNORED RISKS

The user can also choose to ignore the risk of an untrusted certificate. System Advisor will hide the card, and a state of “No new risks” will appear.

no risks found

If no risks are found on the user’s phone, the report card, device pillar, and System Advisor section will all be color coded green.

Wi-fi security

Wi-Fi Security is a feature that detects the states of wi-fi networks. At a glance, the color fields inform the user if the network is secure, unsecure, or compromised. I worked in tandem with another designer who was responsible for the flow and the UX of the feature, where I was responsible for the UI design.
