GOOGLE OPEN SOURCE

I worked on a contract with Left Field Labs and Google to publish Google's Open Source repository as a responsive site. I was responsible for leading the UX design effort while collaborating with the Left Fields Lab team (including the Creative Director, engineers, and visual designers).

Please note that there have been some changes to the live site since the launch in 2017.

SITEMAP AND HOMEPAGE

The Google Open Source project was originally comprised of history, success stories, projects, methodology, and the open source community. The intent of the homepage was to draw the user in with tidbits of each of the main categories. Since its public conception, the success stories category has been removed, methodology renamed “docs” and a blog has been added.

Projects

This project required an advanced filtering and categorization system due to the large number of projects in the repository. Projects could be filtered by categories and programming language.

methodology

Currently categorized as “Docs” on the live site, this section was comprised of Google’s internal documentation to guide developers in releasing their code.

COMMUNITY

The community section needed to accommodate both outreach programs and affiliations, which served different purposes. We used a simple toggle so that the outreach programs could be highlighted, which also provided easier access to a long list of affiliations.
